Gift to The SONA Foundation’s Therapy Assistance Project will help more music creators access care on their own terms

LOS ANGELES, CA, UNITED STATES, October 8, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — For songwriters and composers who need mental health support, the cost of therapy can be the barrier that keeps them from getting started. A $50,000 gift from the National Music Publishers’ Association’s Supporting Our Next Generation of Songwriters (SONGS) Foundation will help The SONA Foundation bring its Therapy Assistance Project (TAP) to even more music creators.

TAP helps songwriters and composers access one-on-one therapy while giving them the freedom to choose a mental health provider who is right for them. The new funding will support hundreds of hours of individualized care. Applications are now open to songwriters and composers based in the United States.
“The SONGS Foundation is very pleased to support The SONA Foundation’s Therapy Assistance Project,” said David Israelite, President of the NMPA SONGS Foundation. “The program is unique in that it gives songwriters the freedom to work with mental health providers of their choosing. TAP’s mission directly aligns with the SONGS Foundation’s goal to alleviate the financial stress that many working creators carry and to provide mental health resources. We look forward to these funds continuing the success of this program.”

Established in 2024, TAP provides recipients with more than six months of weekly, one-on-one therapy. By helping with the cost of care and allowing each person to select their own provider, the program makes it easier to seek support that fits their needs and to stay with it over time.

“The SONA Foundation is committed to providing resources to music creators in the areas of mental health, financial wellness and career development. Our TAP program is unique in that we seek to both demystify the process of getting started with therapy and remove the financial barriers that often stand in the way of getting help,” said Kellie Brown, Executive Director of The SONA Foundation. “We are grateful to the SONGS Foundation Board of Directors and staff for this extremely impactful gift and look forward to continuing to work together to serve the music community in meaningful ways.”
