Harlingen Weslaco Brownsville McAllen, TX, September 30, 2026 —
The Colorado Avalanche organization has finalized a four-year contract extension with head coach Jared Bednar. This agreement is set to keep Bednar at the helm of the team through the conclusion of the 2030-31 NHL season.
The extension signifies a commitment from the Avalanche franchise to its current coaching leadership. Bednar has been the head coach for the Avalanche since the 2016-17 season. Details regarding the financial terms of the new contract were not immediately available.
A contract extension of this length typically indicates satisfaction with the coach’s performance and alignment with the team’s strategic vision. It provides a degree of stability and continuity for the coaching staff and the roster. Coaches who receive multi-year extensions are often recognized for their ability to guide the team through regular seasons and playoff campaigns.
The specific performance metrics or discussions that led to this extension were not disclosed. However, the extended tenure through the 2030-31 season suggests a long-term plan is in place, which could involve player development and team-building over the coming years. The Avalanche will continue their upcoming seasons with Bednar as their head coach, focusing on on-ice results.
